Kataragama

Some pics from a recent trip to Kataragama. Couple of my friends were going with their family for a pooja and I basically invited myself :). I haven't been there in 6 years, just two months before the Tsunami, and been wanting to go for sometime, but, you know how things get in the way. Unfortunately didn't go to Yala or other touristy places.

Mostly I wanted to go to Tissa, coz the place holds a special place in my heart. My first job, right after I left school i joined a bank, and my first posting was to Tissa. Quite an experience for a "sheltered" Colombo kid, but I enjoyed it there very much and made some good friends too. I've been promising to visit them, so that was another reason I was keen to go. Anyway, got transfered out in about a year, which eventually led to the demise of my banking career and my life as it is today. Who knows, if i hadn't been transfered when I was, I'd probably by still be in banking, and miserable at it, a different life altogether. It's one of those "what if" dilemmas.

A Blast form the Past

Here are some pics from the The Vintage Car Owners Club rally held last Sunday (13th February 2011). No, i don't have a vintage car, just went to see it since it started close to my home.

The guys participating seemed to have a blast.

A Good book and some other stuff :)

Recently read a thrilling book by Michael Dibdin called the “The Last Sherlock Holmes Story”. It pitted Sherlock Holmes against both Jack the Ripper and Professor Moriarty. However the ending was the real shocker. You might not like it if you are a diehard fan of the Baker Street sleuth. It’s well worth the read though.

Found it at the British Council, and should still be there…

SPOILER ALERT
Holmes is suffering from Multiple personality disorder and he himself is BOTH MORIARTY and JACK THE RIPPER. Commits suicide for the good of all.

On a separate note…

My brain still seems to be a blank. I think the cause is I’m getting too lazy. Hmm…Must do something about it.

New thing I learnt, one glass of Champagne can leave you reeking of alcohol for a long time. Who knew. Went to a wedding recently and had one glass of Champagne for the toast. Got stopped by cops on the way home, who insisted that I reek of alcohol and wanted me to do a breathalyzer. Fortunately I passed, so the copper is left with a used “baluma”. Man, this means can’t even have a glass of Champagne when driving. Too much hassle.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Man, another year has gone by like a Cheetah on steroids. I just realized that we've finished with a decade too. Remember all those paranoid talks way back in 1999 about how the world is going to hell come 2000? Well surprise, surprise, we are still standing here at the end of 2010. I have a feeling that we'll still be here on January 01 2013 as well.

Found this interesting chart @ www.geekologie.com.

Anywhoo, here's wishing you all a happy new year filled with joy and prosperity.

Cheers

Nursery Rhymes are such fun...

to mess with.

Haven’t done one of these in ages.

Disclaimer: All characters are fictional. Any resemblance to any person living or dead is not my problem.

Rub-a-dub-dub
three men in a tub
as to what they did
Shhh... Don't ask don't tell

The religious nuts were pretty outraged
What a scandal in our town
Placards waving they came in droves
To get the three out of the Tub

The Butcher, the baker, the candlestick-maker
were quite unfazed by all the hate
Into the water they put the Tub
and sailed away on the Great Lakes
