World
Challenge is a competition organized by the BBC and Newsweek. It is aimed at
finding projects or small businesses from around the world which have shown
innovation and enterprise, and are helping the local community while preserving
the environment.
Their
basic criteria are:
·
Innovative projects or ideas that demonstrate an
entrepreneurial spirit working for the benefit of the community whilst adopting
a responsible approach.
·
Projects/small businesses that show initiative, the
innovative use of technology or an invention.
·
Projects/small businesses that increase investment
into the local community.
·
Projects/small businesses that take a responsible
approach to the environment in which they are operating.
There
are 10 nominations form 10 countries, all of which are worthy candidates. Please
take some time to have a look at them, and maybe vote for your favorite. The
more important thing would be to see how some of these innovative ideas can be
adapted to tackling similar problems in Sri Lanka.
